One of these Hand Talk variations, Plains Indian Sign Language, was used so widely across the Great Plains that it became a lingua franca — a universal language used by both d/Deaf and hearing people to communicate among tribes that didn’t share a common spoken language. At one point, tens of thousands of Indigenous people used Plains Indian Sign Language, or PISL, for everything from trade to hunting, conflict, storytelling, and rituals.

this is a painting. that fabric was made out of Paint. those shadows on the lady’s waist were painted. by a guy in the FIFTEEN HUNDREDS. my man was born in 1507. before we knew what the periodic table or germs were, a man was like “i’m going to put liquids on hairs that are on sticks and drag the hairs on sticks in very small lines so the lines make a picture” and by god he did. this dude was doing photorealism and he didn’t even know what a fucking photo was.
